Newly Established StarShea International to Reinforce Services to our Clients…
StarShea group has now a new member: StarShea international. This company, incorporated in France, will become the mother company of StarShea Ltd in Ghana from June 2014. PlaNet Finance Social Business will become unique shareholder of StarShea international. StarShea International’s main role is to market butter refined in the Netherlands, and to manage the delivery of this butter to our international clients. StarShea Ltd remains in charge of managing the supply of nuts and butter from Ghanaian women, and to market nuts and unrefined butter to local and international clients at fair trade prices.

2014-2015 Shea Nut production is Launched, 15.000 Women Recruited
This year, new communities have joined the StarShea network. Thanks to partnership with local NGOs and the StarShea team’s own effort, more than 15,000 women are now part of the project.
A large part of the production is in the process of being certified as organic by Ecocert (EU and NOP), Fair For Life by IMO, and ESR by Ecocert.
StarShea Ltd Present at International Conferences to Promote its Social Model
During the 1st semester of 2014, StarShea attended two important professional conferences:
– The Global Shea Alliance annual International conference, held from March 24 to 26 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
– The 2014 North American Shea Trade and Industry Conference, on May 12, in NY City.

French Government Rewards Ghanaian Innovators
On Thursday, 13th of March, 2014, four Ghanaian innovators were awarded with certificates for their successful participation in the “Innovations for Sustainable Development for Africa” competition, organised by the French government. Of 800 applications, these four initiatives emerged among the 100 best innovative projects and finally one of the four projects ranked among the final 21 most innovative projects from the continent. StarShea Ltd. Is very proud to announce that 1200 women of the Starshea Network have obtained organic certification from the The Institute for Marketecology IMO. The IMO is a highly experienced international body for the inspection, certification and quality control of organic, eco-friendly and socially-responsible products The high standard of IMO certification meet all the EU and NOP requirement for organic products and ensure a quality control of the certified products.
Fair For Life
The fair trade certification labelled Fair For Life has been granted to 800 women from StarShea Network.
This certification has been possible thanks to the great support provided by our partner Symrise.
StarShea Ltd at the Global Shea Alliance Conference, Abuja, March 2013
StarShea attended the 2013 Global Shea Alliance conference in Abuja with the PlaNet Finance team. Anna Perinic, CEO of StarShea Ltd, outlined market opportunities in the butter business and led a discussion on fair trade pricing and market orientation. Anna also facilitated workshops for the Global Shea Alliance Sustainability Seal, a project that should enable the promotion of shea for brands and retailers of consumer goods. This will increase awareness about shea in both food and cosmetic products, and advance sustainability for the whole industry.

StarShea Ltd was invited to the LH Forum to share with other key players of the positive economy, key lessons from the Ghanaian venture. The LH Forum is a platform where ideas an innovative approaches can be brought to develop a positive economy and foster relations between solution providers in order to create and share knowledge about the development of a responsible and socially sustainable economy.

StarShea Non-Profit in Ghana Becomes an Independent Social Business
As part of SAP’s commitment to help build more sustainable economies, four years ago PlaNet Finance and SAP AG came together to form the StarShea Network. Now the non-profit collective has transitioned to an incorporated, stand-alone business. Started in 2009 to help 1,500 women in rural Northern Ghana manage and grow their shea nut business, the newly named StarShea Ltd. has grown to a network of more than 10,000 women and emerged as one of the worldwide market leaders of organically produced and fairly traded hand-crafted shea butter.
